The Reds welcome Bedworth United to The Stotto Stadium on Saturday, looking to pile more misery on a Greenbacks side that have found themselves drawn into a relegation battle.

Quorn’s Form:

Ryan Beswick’s side are now unbeaten in five, with four wins and three cleansheets in that spell. That run has seen home victories versus Boldmere St. Michaels (4-1), Corby Town (3-0) and Coleshill Town (also 3-0). Overall, at home, Quorn have won 11, drawn three and lost one, scoring 46 and conceding 13.

Bedworth United’s Form:

The Greenbacks’ miserable run of form continued on Tuesday evening as they lost 3-1 at home to Long Eaton United. Despite a battling performance against one of the division’s form teams, Bedworth’s winless run stretched to nine games. They’ve lost eight of those nine games, with the lone respite a 0-0 draw at home to Hinckley LR. Prior to that poor streak of form, United enjoyed a three-game stretch that saw them win at home to Worcester City, pick up a point with a 2-2 draw at Anstey, in which the Nomads needed a very late equaliser, and win 2-1 at Shepshed Dynamo.

In this current run, Bedworth have scored eight, but conceded 21. Overall, away from The Oval, United have won just twice, drawn five and lost seven, scoring 15 and conceding 23. They currently sit in 18th place, just four points above the drop, but rooted to the foot of the form table.

One to Watch:

A former teammate of Beswick at Nuneaton, Charlie Dowd can be a real handful. The highly rated forward ran the show in a late season meeting with Quorn last year. Playing for Sutton Coldfield Town at the time, Dowd was instrumental in a 5-3 win for the Royals. He has only scored once for Bedworth in nine appearances, since joining them in October, but the goal coincided with United’s last win. Dowd also scored three this season for Sutton Coldfield in 18 appearances.

Last Time: Bedworth United 1-3 Quorn (02/11/2024) Northern Premier League Midlands Division

Three goals in 16 second half minutes helped Quorn come from behind as Ryan Beswick started the comeback with a brace, and Zak Goodson struck the killer third to finish off a determined Bedworth United.

George Dunkley had two incredible opportunities in the first six minutes, Tom Allsopp making a remarkable save from the first, with Dunkley firing his second opportunity wide.

Bedworth did take the lead in the 10th minute, as Desean Martin scored after Quorn didn’t deal with a corner. It took 20 minutes for the Reds to get going, and they were lucky to be only trailing by one at that stage, but when they did get going they were soon back to their enthralling best.

Jordan Clarke was consistently beating his marker down the left, and looked certain to level the scores when he weaved inside the box with half an hour played, only for Liam O’Brien to block his shot as he spread his frame to deny the forward. Quorn had several shouts for penalties in the first half, but Referee Richard Walker wasn’t interested.

Reece Fyfe had an opportunity with a free kick from a similar position to the incredible goal he scored on Tuesday evening, but this time his low drive was comfortably saved. Bedworth didn’t offer much going forward for the remainder of the half as the Reds dominated possession, with the break coming a little earlier than they would have liked.

Quorn’s momentum continued into the second half with chances aplenty, though Bedworth looked to be playing with 12 men as there was always a body in the way to block every shot. A deserved equaliser finally arrived in the 57th minute when Goodson was brought down inside the box, and this time Walker didn’t hesitate to point to the spot.

Beswick stepped up to convert his fourth penalty of the season and just six minutes later he struck his seventh goal of the season, bundling a corner over the line to give Quorn the lead. Beswick turned provider in the 73rd minute, keeping his head as the ball pinged around the area, the experienced midfielder teed up Goodson as he also fired in his seventh goal of the season.

Bedworth tried to muster a response but the Methodists managed the remainder of the game, comfortably seeing out the clock.
