PREVIEW: Racing Club Warwick (A)

Where:

Townsend Meadow, Hampton Road, Warwick CV34 6JP

When:

Saturday 31st of August 2024 (3pm KO)

Without a win in three, Quorn head out on the road for tricky away trip to new boys, Racing Club Warwick. The Warwickshire based side won the playoffs in the UCL Premier South last season, beating Aylestone Park, and former Quorn man, Billy Kee in the final

Quorn’s Form:

We currently sit 14th in the table, but have played fewer games than anyone else in the division, with as many as three games in hand on some of our rivals. The season began in tremendous fashion, with a 5-1 win at home to Sutton Coldfield Town. That was followed up with a 1-1 draw away to Long Eaton United, a match that anyone watching will feel we deserved to win. After a crushing FA Cup defeat at Cleethorpes Town a fortnight ago, The Reds bounced back with a solid first half against Anstey Nomads on Monday. The visitors had the better of the second half, but the sides finished all square, as Anstey were held goalless in a league tie for the first time in over a year.

Racing Club Warwick’s Form:

The Racers sit one point, and one place above Quorn, with six points from six matches. Away from home, Warwick have lost all four league games, including games away against early pace-setters, Corby Town and Worcester City. There were also defeats at Boldmere St. Michael’s and, most recently, a 1-0 defeat at Rugby Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

At home though, it’s been a different story. Aside from an early FA Cup exit at the hands of Hednesford Town, The Racers have won both league matches, 1-0 vs Coleshill Town, and 4-3 when they hosted Sporting Khalsa, a match they trailed 3-1 at the break.

One to Watch:

Greg Mills is a familiar name to Player/Manager Ryan Beswick, as the two were teammates at Nuneaton Town in 2017. After his spell at the Boro’ Greg went on to have a prolific run at Stourbridge, before bouncing around a little the past few seasons. Mills recently had a good spell with Melton Town before finishing last season with Corby Town. He recently scored a brace in the come from behind win at Sporting Khalsa.

Last Time:

We don’t have a massive amount details, well, any apart from the scoreline, but the two sides were both playing in the Midland Football Alliance in the 2006/07 season. Quorn began the season with a 2-0 win on the opening day of the season at Farley Way, securing the double over the Racers with a 2-1 win at Hampton Road in March 2007.
