PREVIEW: Rugby Town (A)
Where:
Butlin Road, Rugby, Warwickshire , CV21 3SD
When:
Saturday 30th of November 2024 (3pm KO)
Quorn head back on their travels at the weekend, as the Reds head to the West Midlands. Much like Quorn, Rugby Town came from behind for a 1-1 last Saturday.
Quorn’s Form:
The Reds 14 match win streak was snapped at the weekend after a 1-1 draw at home to playoff chasing Darlaston Town. The Reds remain unbeaten on the season, stretching that streak to a phenomenal 18 games. Back-to-back 1-0 wins at home to Hinckley LR and Sporting Khalsa had fired Quorn to the top of the table, where they remain, with a nine point lead as we approach the halfway point of the season. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this season so far, is the fact that Quorn have had five cleansheets away from home, conceding just four times in nine matches, whilst scoring 20.
Rugby Town’s Form:
The Valley are in the midst of a three match unbeaten run, with back-to-back 1-1 draws away to Grantham Town, and most recently at 10 man Long Eaton United, scoring a late penalty after the Blues had their keeper sent off with an hour to play. The third result in their current streak was a 3-1 win away to bottom of the table Lye Town. That victory was their first since August, and snapped a five game losing streak. Rugby sit 19th in the league and have won two, lost three and drawn three at home, scoring eight and conceding 14.
One to Watch:
With 13 goals in 20 matches this season, Trey Charles is one of the most prolific forwards in the division. Charles has scored five braces this season, and hit the back of the net from the spot five times. Rugby have lost just one of the eight games in which Charles has scored, a 5-1 defeat away to Hinckley LR.
Last Time:
The two sides finished their league fixtures early last season as Rugby Town were the first visitors to Farley Way on our return to step four football. Cain Noble and Ryan Beswick scored in a 2-1 win that August evening, but the most recent meeting was at Butlin Road in December 2023. Quorn dominated the match, but it was the hosts that scored first, Jordan Wilson handing The Valley the lead in the fifth minute. Paddy Webb drew us level in the 29th minute, and it stayed at 1-1 until The Reds ran away with it late. Noble scored a brace in the space of five minutes and Webb added his second at the death for what was a deserved three points.
