PREVIEW: Wellingborough Town (A)

Where:

Dog & Duck Ground, London Road, Wellingborough NN8 2DP (what3words wooden union tanks)

When:

Saturday 16th of November 2024 (3pm KO)

We’re back on the road this weekend as we head south to Northamptonshire. Our trip to Wellingborough is our first since the curtailed 2019/20 season. The Doughboys won the UCL Premier South last season and currently sit ninth in the table, just four points outside the playoffs.

Quorn’s Form:

The Reds have won a remarkable 13 straight league games and are unbeaten through 16 matches. Back-to-back 1-0 wins at home to Hinckley LR and Sporting Khalsa fired Quorn to the top of the table, with a five-point lead, as Corby Town were inactive. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this season so far, is the fact that Quorn have had five cleansheets away from home, conceding just three times in eight matches, whilst scoring 18.

Wellingborough Town’s Form:

The Doughboys are winless in their previous three in all competitions, losing 4-0 away to Corby Town in the County Cup, drawing 2-2 at home to Darlaston Town and, most recently, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Worcester City at The Dog & Duck Ground. Jordan Graham’s penalty helped Wellingborough to a 1-0 win away to 10-man Hinckley LR in late October for their only win in five, with the other result a 2-2 draw at Coventry Sphinx.

One to Watch:

Neo Richard-Noel was a huge part of Wellingborough’s superb 2023/24 season, scoring a Paddy Webb-like 40 goals in 47 games. The prolific forward has found it harder going in step four, but remains a goal-threat, scoring twice so far this season in 14 appearances. Will Jones tops the scoring chart for the Doughboys with five goals in 19 matches.

Last Time:

The records of our most recent meeting have largely been scrubbed as it came during the dark days of the Covid pandemic, when results were expunged. Which is probably okay for this one as it was a very forgettable 0-0 draw and none of the current squad were involved.

Tickets:

Adults £12.00, Concessions £9.00, Under 16s Free

Travel:

Take the A6 south to the A46. Join the M1 south, following through to the A14. Exit at junction nine onto the A509 south and stay on until you reach the outskirts of Wellingborough and the island where the A509 meets the A510. Take the third exit, remaining on the A509 until it meets the A45 bypass. Leave the island at the second exit, heading east on the A45.

From A45 bypass take slip to Wellingborough Town Centre. Follow road past Tesco Store, turn left at roundabout and the turn right at the 2nd set of traffic lights. Wellingborough Town FC is then on your right-hand side, behind the Premier Inn. According to Wellingborough Town’s match confirmation email, supporters can use the car park opposite the ground in the retail park. There is a hotel next door and that car park should be avoided by supporters or they will be clamped.
