PREVIEW: Worcester City (H)

Where:

The Stotto Stadium, Farley Way, Quorn LE12 8RB

When:

Saturday 7th of December 2024 (3:00pm KO)

It’s another date at the Stotto Stadium for the Reds this weekend, following on from the County Cup quarter final penalty shootout win on Tuesday evening.

Quorn’s Form:

The Reds are unbeaten in 19 league games to start the season, with sixteen wins and 10 cleansheets in those matches. The midweek County Cup match saw eight changes from the weekend, so the squad should be well rested after a young Reds side acquitted themselves superbly to progress to the semi-finals. Our most recent league game at The Stotto Stadium was a 1-1 draw against Darlaston Town which snapped a 14 game winning streak, and six match home winning run. The Reds responded superbly last weekend, blasting four in the first 25 minutes away to Rugby Town, running out 6-0 winners at Butlin Road.

Worcester City’s Form:

Only one team has been in better form than Worcester City over the last seven NPL Midlands fixtures, ourselves of course! The Faithful have won six out of seven, keeping four cleansheets in their last five matches. The only recent blot being a surprising 3-0 defeat away to Bedworth United. In fact, the Blues have played on 3G twice this season, losing both and shipping three goals on both occasions (the other a 3-2 defeat at Sporting Khalsa).

There’s definitely a difference between their home and away fortunes, with eight wins and two defeats at Claines Lane with a goal difference of plus twelve, but five wins and five defeats on the road with a goal difference of plus two.

One to Watch:

Kyle Belmonte remains the top-scorer for Worcester City with seven goals on the season. However, the last nine goals for The Faithful have come from nine different players over the past six matches.

Last Time:

The two sides met back in September (Worcester City are the first team we’ll face for a second time this season) on a baking hot Saturday afternoon at a packed Claines Lane. The match got off to the worst possible start for the hosts with Charlie Wise dragging back Courey Grantham in the seventh minute, conceding a penalty and receiving his marching orders.

Ryan Beswick converted the penalty, and although the ten men equalised before the break, they couldn’t live with a rampant Reds side in the second half. Grantham scored a superb overhead kick shortly after the break and with the Faithful looking for a way back into the match Paddy Webb and Zak Goodson were able to take advantage and put the match beyond Worcester.
