REPORT: Bedworth United 1-3 Quorn
Three goals in 16 second half minutes helped Quorn come from behind to remain unbeaten through 14 league games, winning their 11th straight. Ryan Beswick started the comeback with a brace, and Zak Goodson struck the killer third to finish off a determined Bedworth United.
On the basis of the opening fifteen minutes, anyone that didn’t know would have thought that Bedworth were the team challenging for the title, with Quorn battling relegation. George Dunkley had two incredible opportunities in the first six minutes, Tom Allsopp making a remarkable save from the first, with Dunkley firing his second opportunity wide.
Bedworth did take the lead in the 10th minute, as Desean Martin scored after Quorn didn’t deal with a corner. It took 20 minutes for the Reds to get going, and they were lucky to be only trailing by one at that stage, but when they did get going they were soon back to their enthralling best.
Jordan Clarke was consistently beating his marker down the left, and looked certain to level the scores when he weaved inside the box with half an hour played, only for Liam O’Brien to block his shot as he spread his frame to deny the forward. Quorn had several shouts for penalties in the first half, but Referee Richard Walker wasn’t interested.
Reece Fyfe had an opportunity with a free kick from a similar position to the incredible goal he scored on Tuesday evening, but this time his low drive was comfortably saved. Bedworth didn’t offer much going forward for the remainder of the half as the Reds dominated possession, with the break coming a little earlier than they would have liked.
Quorn’s momentum continued into the second half with chances aplenty, though Bedworth looked to be playing with 12 men as there was always a body in the way to block every shot. A deserved equaliser finally arrived in the 57th minute when Goodson was brought down inside the box, and this time Walker didn’t hesitate to point to the spot.
Beswick stepped up to convert his fourth penalty of the season and just six minutes later he struck his seventh goal of the season, bundling a corner over the line to give Quorn the lead. Beswick turned provider in the 73rd minute, keeping his head as the ball pinged around the area, the experienced midfielder teed up Goodson as he also fired in his seventh goal of the season.
Bedworth tried to muster a response but the Methodists managed the remainder of the game, comfortably seeing out the clock to maintain the pressure on Corby Town and pull further away from Sporting Khalsa and Darlaston Town as they both dropped points this afternoon.
