REPORT: Boldmere St. Michaels 0-1 Quorn

Quorn secured a fourth successive league win as Mason Frizelle’s first goal for the club saw the Reds leave the West Midlands with another three points.

With Paddy Webb and Courey Grantham on the bench, Ryan Beswick’s side went in to the match without their top two goalscorers. However, you wouldn’t have known it from the confident performance that the Methodists strung together throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Jonathan Brown was kept busy between the posts for Boldmere, and some excellent defensive work from the Mikes looked as though it might be able to hold off the marauding visitors. Sure enough, Quorn were unable to break the deadlock in the first halfa and, just like Tuesday evening at Lye, the Reds went in frustrated to be level.

Just before the hour mark, the decisive moment came, Zak Goodson whipped in a delightful corner that Frizelle attacked with gusto, handing Quorn a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The Reds had to work for their fourth clean sheet of the season as Boldmere made a fist of it in the final 20 minutes.

This Quorn side has shown it’s mettle on several occasions already this season, and they had to dig deep once again as they clung on to move up to third place in the table, gaining points on the top two sides, that they also have two games in hand on.

Next up is County Cup action, with a quick turnaround as The Reds head to Barwell for a Monday Night Football encounter with Hinckley AFC, before, hopefully, finally completing a home game for the first time in six weeks when they host Grantham Town at Farley Way on Saturday afternoon.
