REPORT | Cambridge City 2-2 Quorn

Quorn remained unbeaten in the league as they drew in St. Ives on Tuesday evening. Paddy Webb gave the Reds the lead twice, only to see the home side equalise both times, including a last gasp leveller to deny Quorn their first win on the road this season.

The Reds were denied, what looked a certain, early penalty when Jack Samples was felled in the area with just 20 minutes on the clock. Webb’s first goal was the result of good work from Courey Grantham, as he played a great ball across goal in the 40th minute, to send Quorn in ahead at the break.

Daniel Cotton converted a penalty for Cambridge in the 50th minute, after Charlie Woods was adjudged to have brought a player down in the area. Quorn have conceded three penalties in five games so far this season.

Webb popped up again in the 73rd minute to restore the lead. Grantham again provided the assist as the Reds dominated proceedings. However, with a little under 10 minutes to play, Grantham suffered an injury that meant he could not continue. Quorn had already used all three substitutions, meaning they would have to see out the match with 10 men.

Disaster struck for the Reds in eight minutes of stoppage time as Samples received a second yellow card, reducing Quorn to nine men. Lewis Darlington took full advantage for the hosts as he headed home in the 96th minute to snatch a point for a relieved Cambridge City.
