REPORT | Carlton Town 2-0 Quorn

Quorn crashed out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 defeat away to Carlton Town on Tuesday evening. The Millers picked up where they left off on Saturday, with a couple of early chances as they broke with pace. Quorn settled quickly though and almost struck first as Paddy Webb’s flicked header came off a defender, but dropped safely for the hosts. Cain Noble headed the resulting corner wide as the match remained scoreless.

It was from a Quorn corner that the match ran the way of the hosts, as they cleared and broke quickly, resulting in a free kick on the edge of the box. Greg Tempest struck the resulting dead ball and found the far corner with a rasping drive to put Carlton ahead in the 19th minute. The Reds pushed for an equaliser, coming close as Jack Samples and Webb both had efforts that were narrowly over. However, as soon as it appeared that Quorn had gained a foothold in the match, Town extended their lead as Romello Nangle headed home a set-piece in the 30th minute.

Despite creating a few chances, the Reds were clearly off the pace in the first half, but attacked the second half with renewed vigour. Mitchel Candlin fired an effort in from the edge of the box, but it was charged down and Felix Annan was able to comfortably gather in the Carlton goal. Tyrell Shannon-Lewis entered the match in the 62nd minute and was quickly amongst the chances, firing in a stinging effort that Annan was able to gather at the second attempt.

Charlie Marzano was next to force a save from Annan as he took a long ball in his stride with, with an excellent touch, hitting a high drive that the ‘keeper touched over the bar. It was a night were very little went well for the visitors, whose focus now moves to the start of the league season and a fixture away to Coventry Sphinx on Saturday afternoon.
