REPORT: Cleethorpes Town 4-0 Quorn

Quorn’s FA Cup adventure ended almost as soon as it got underway as Cleethorpes Town ran roughshod over a beleaguered Reds side. Three goals in four first half minutes effectively put the tie to bed for the hosts as Quorn couldn’t muster a response.

The first 10 minutes were scrappy, with neither side really getting the upper hand, but from that point on the first half was one of sheer domination from the hosts. Curtis Bateson got in behind the Quorn defence and drilled a shot into the roof of the net in the 24th minute. And it took the Owls just two minutes to double the lead as Adam Haw pounced on the rebound after Tom Allsopp made a good save from Bateson.

Just two minutes later it was 3-0 as Josh Walker took full advantage of a poor clearance. Beswick went to his bench early, and a change of shape stemmed the flow, but Nicky Walker added a fourth on the stroke of half time.

Quorn improved after the break, however, it definitely felt as though the hosts had taken their foot off the accelerator. The Reds registered just two shots on target as Heath Richardson was rarely troubled in the Cleethorpes goal. With Loughborough Students drawing this afternoon, their replay with Deeping Rangers will take precedence over their scheduled visit to Farley Way on Tuesday, and with no match on Saturday, the Reds will have to stew on this result until Bank Holiday Monday, with the visit of Anstey Nomads.
