History repeated itself as Quorn suffered a heavy defeat in another FA Competition, leaving them just the league to focus on, just a week into September. Paddy Webb scored a sensational equaliser early on, but the game was put to bed by the hosts inside 21 minutes.

Quorn came flying out of the blocks but Webb spent too long on the ball in the first minute, allowing a challenge to dispossess him in a good position. Hednesford were far more clinical and Jake Jervis took full advantage as Quorn couldn’t clear, scoring in the second minute for an early lead.

Webb was far more decisive in the 10th minute, when he was afforded too much space and drilled in an equaliser for his sixth goal of the season. The Reds could have taken the lead moments later as Cain Noble attacked the near post from a corner, but his header flew wide.

Hednesford regained the lead in the 16th minute as they cut through Quorn’s right side and Dominic McHale tapped in after his initial effort squirmed out of the gasp of Tom Allsopp. The Pitmen showed that they could do the same down the left and picked Quorn apart in the 17th minute with Jack Bearne adding the third in what was already beginning to look eerily similar to the Cleethorpes mauling.

The fourth Hednesford goal came in the 21st minute as Bearne struck again, against a shell-shocked looking Methodists side. The Reds continued to push and Webb brought a great save out of Ryan Brown as Reece Fyfe broke from midfield and played a superb ball through to the striker.

The second half was a little bit of a non-contest, both sides threatened without ever really looking as though there would be any additions to the scoreline. The match was effectively over after a spell of conceding three goals in five first half minutes, in the same manner as that forgettable afternoon in Cleethorpes.
