REPORT: Hinckley LR 0-1 Quorn
By Kurt Barnes
Quorn edged a tight game against Hinckley LR to move a step closer to the title. In a pretty uneventful game, Zhani Burgess scored the only goal as the Reds make it a one nil double over Leicester Road, securing an 18th clean sheet of the season.
Burgess ensured it was a perfect start for the Reds who were one nil up after just five minutes. Paddy Webb’s brilliant work on the ball and pin-point cross into Burgess who was able to connect with it, as the ball crawled over the line. Tom Allsopp was called into action just before the 20 minute mark, getting down low to save Leicester Road’s first shot on goal.
Quorn had to wait until the 27th minute to muster another attempt on goal and this time it was from Luca Alonzi. His fierce effort on goal was kept out by Jake Laban between the Hinckley posts. Allsopp was called into action again a few minutes later, working hard for his clean sheet, making another vital save as he tipped a powerful effort over the bar.
Webb was in on the action in the 36th minute when he created some space down the left to drive and get a shot on goal but he was unlucky to see the ball curl just wide of the top corner. Just before the break Quorn arguably should have been two up when Jack Samples went on a mazy run, receiving the ball back in the box from a cross. The full back, who was the only outfield player in the squad without a goal this season, got a good touch on the cross, but had to watch as it went over the bar.
The second half was largely uneventful with Quorn’s first attempt on goal was in the 61st minute when Cain Noble hit the back of the net, but the flag had long been up for an offside earlier in the move. Leicester Road saw a lot of the ball in the second half but weren’t able to break down a resolute Reds defence that has been, by far, the stingiest in the division.
Quorn can secure the league title next time out if they beat Wellingborough Town at home and Corby Town fail to win against their visitors, Coleshill Town. Saturday will see the Reds run out at The Stotto Stadium for the first time in almost a month, as they mark Non-League Day by offering half-price entry to fans of Premier League and Championship clubs who wear their club’s replica shirt, or produce their season ticket at the turnstile.
