REPORT | Loughborough Dynamo 2-3 Quorn

The Reds stretched their unbeaten streak to seven games as they maintained their playoff push behind a scintillating second half performance in the Charnwood Forest Derby. Goals from Cain Noble, Ryan Beswick and Paddy Webb, in an eight minute spell late on, turned the match in Quorn’s favour and has The Methodists knocking on the door of the playoffs in sixth place.

Quorn started slowly and found themselves behind in just the sixth minute. Rob Norris swung a corner into the middle of the box where Mitchell Robinson met it with a powerful header. The Reds responded and slowly worked their way back in to the contest, though it took a superb save from Charlie Woods to keep them in the match.

George Ball hit a superb curling effort that Woods was able to tip on to the bar at full stretch. The ball cannoned off the underside and was adjudged to have not crossed the line. Woods scrambled back up to deny an effort on the rebound for a tremendous double save.

Webb thought he had pulled Quorn level with a delicate lob over Lewis King, but the assistant had already raised his flag for offside. Moments later, Beswick tried a long range shot, King spilled what should have been a comfortable gather, but reacted quickly enough to deny Noble, who had punced on the rebound.

It was beginning to look as though Quorn could drag themselves level before the break, but the ball was given away in the opposition half, allowing a counter attack that saw Dynamo double their lead. Ball drove forward and shot from the edge of the box. Veteran defender Jamie Hood tried to get a block on the shot, but the ball came off him and looped over Woods.

Just as Webb saw a goal chalked off in the first half, Ball had one of his own in the second half, an impressive overhead kick on a rebound from a Woods save, but the forward had strayed as the ball came in.

Loughborough’s highlights finished there as Quorn took over the match and totally dominated the last 30 minutes. Tyree Wilson and Courey Grantham combined off the bench to play in Beswick, but his close range effort went inches over the bar. The tireless Captain went close again moments later, but saw his header blocked on the line.

The pressure from the Reds had been near constant, and it finally told when Noble cut in off the right and shot through a crowd, the ball sneaking in at the far post with fifteen minutes to play. Dynamo were on the back foot now and when Wilson was brought down inside the area, Referee Jamie Conde didn’t hesitate to point to the spot. Just as he did against Gresley Rovers last time out, Beswick kept his cool and sent the keeper the wrong way, pulling his side level.

60 seconds later Quorn were ahead, Noble cut in off the left this time, firing a bullet low to King’s left. The Dynamo shot-stopper did well to keep that effort out, but Webb was following in and smashed the loose ball into the net to send the travelling support delirious.

Dynamo finally responded and probed for an equaliser, but Quorn’s defence held firm to see out the remainder of the game, securing a dramatic three points on the road. Whilst the Reds remain sixth in the table, Hinckley LR’s home draw saw Quorn pull to within four point of the playoffs, with a game in hand to come on Tuesday, away to relegation battlers AFC Rushden & Diamonds. Though they sit in bottom two, a string of superb results sees them as one of the form sides in the division, including a 4-0 win away to Coleshill Town this weekend, lifting themselves off the foot of the table, and within three points of safety.
