REPORT | Quorn 0-2 Loughborough Dynamo

Quorn fell to a first league home defeat of the season, as goals from David Chapman and Gianluca Bucci handed the visiting Moes a 2-0 victory, lifting them to second in the league and condemning the Reds to seventh place.

Late changes to the starting line-up saw Quorn head in to the match without defender Josh Steele and lively forward Tyree Wilson. The Reds seemed to take the changes in their stride though as former Dynamo man Courey Grantham hit the bar in the 9th minute with a headed effort.

Connor Furey also went close for Loughborough, his deflected cross hitting the post just a minute later. Charlie Marzano came very close to opening the scoring, but his goalbound effort was wonderfully denied by Lewis King in the Dynamo goal. Cain Noble picked up the rebound but couldn’t control his snapshot, pushing it over the bar.

Loughborough, out of nothing, took the lead in the 37th minute, as a Rob Norris free kick was turned in by Chapman. Quorn responded well and Ant Carney fired a shot just wide from outside the box, shortly before the half time break.

Patrick Zito had the best of the early chances in the second half, but his header from a corner was well-held by King in the Loughborough goal. Quorn had played well for the opening hour and came close again when Jack Samples’ free kick was deflected over.

But, however much Quorn toiled to level, Loughborough put the finishing touch to the match as Bucci scored from a corner that the Reds just couldn’t get clear. The Reds felt aggrieved by the decision to only caution King with 20 minutes to play, as the ‘keeper brought down Grantham. The protests were a little much for the Referee and Samples was cautioned in the resulting debate.

King continued to frustrate Quorn, making good saves from Marzano and Grantham as the Reds looked for a route back in to the match. Loughborough managed the final moments of the match, running the clock out for a hard-fought win. The Reds will look to bounce back when they host Sporting Khalsa at Farley Way on Saturday afternoon (3pm KO).
