REPORT: Quorn 0-2 Ossett United

The Reds tasted defeat for the first time in preseason, losing 2-0 at home to a determined Blackbirds side.

Quorn did create several good chances, but their trademark pace and flair seemed somewhat absent on this occasion. Ossett, whose season begins next Saturday with an FA Cup tie at home to Widnes, locked a constant threat from set-pieces. And broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when early substitute Moses Yoak climbed above his marker and headed into the roof of the net at the back post.

There were good chances for Quorn as Micah Jebbison proved a constant threat on the right, setting up shooting chances for Courey Grantham and Zak Goodson, but Ally Hughes was equal to them in the Ossett goal. Jebbison had a chance himself, losing his marker at a corner but heading narrowly wide.

Cain Noble was introduced at half time, and had a couple of early chances to pull the Reds level, but again Hughes’ goal proved impenetrable. After that brief flurry from the break, Quorn struggled to maintain the momentum and Eddie Church killed off the tie with 20 minutes to play.

Ryan Beswick’s side have one more friendly before their season starts, hosting Spalding United on Saturday the 3rd of August (3pm KO), with the Northern Premier League season kicking off the following weekend with the visit of Sutton Coldfield Town (3pm KO).
