REPORT | Quorn 1-0 Shepshed Dynamo
Quorn edged closer to the playoffs with a tense 1-0 win at home to Shepshed Dynamo. Courey Grantham scored the only goal of the game as the Reds pulled to within a point of fifth placed Hinckley LR.
The hosts dominated the opening ten minutes, but chances were hard to come by as Dynamo kept their shape defensively and proved difficult to break down. Shepshed came in to the game as the half progressed and it took a good save from Charlie Woods to deny Shaq Master in the 15th minute.
Grantham had Quorn’s best chance of the first half, as Tyree Wilson and Cain Noble linked up well on the right, with the attacking midfielder playing a superb ball in for Grantham, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.
The second half was equally cagey, but Paddy Webb and Noble both had chances with headers that sailed narrowly wide as Quorn failed to work Brandon Ganley, who had had a quiet afternoon between the posts for Shepshed.
Webb looked to be clean through on goal with an hour played, but an incredible last-gasp tackle from Jahdahn Fridye-Harper denied the Reds’ top-scorer. When the breakthrough finally came, it was from another good move down the right, as Kyle Bryant combined with Noble to lay on a perfect centre for Grantham to smash past Ganley.
Ganley was able to deny Wilson before full-time, Grantham’s strong challenge set-up the flying forward but his shot was well-gathered. Farren Simons and Harvey Ridgley made their debuts in the second half and looked comfortable and Quorn saw out the match for a valuable three points. Next up for the Reds is a home match with, top-placed, Spalding United on Saturday.
