REPORT | Quorn 3-0 Bedworth United

Quorn returned to winning ways with a stellar second half performance that secured all three points. Jordan Gough’s volley was sandwiched between a Cain Noble brace that delighted the 205 supporters in attendance.

The match got off to a slow start, and it was almost ten minutes old before either side had a shot on goal. Devon Kelly-Evans’ direct free kick was well-held by Dan Crane in the Bedworth goal. The visitors had the better of the early possession but were caught on the break when Charlie Woods sent a ball deep for Courey Grantham to chase. The striker latched on to the deep pass and dragged the ball back to Noble, on the edge of the box, who smashed a rocket in off the left-hand post in the 18th minute.

Bedworth continued to push forward, very nearly pulling level, but for a sliding block from Gough to deny Kory Burke. Leo Stone went close, but a full stretch save from Woods continued the frustration for United. Quorn thought they had a second when Grantham struck just after the half hour mark, but the Assistant Referee spotted a handball in the build-up.

Stone went close again for the Greenbacks, but Woods was at his best once again, pushing his effort round the post, to keep the Reds in the lead at the break. Quorn had looked a shade off the pace in the first half, but came flying out after the break, adding a second from a corner as Kelly-Evans picked out Gough just inside the box, with the centre-half blasting in an athletic volley to double the lead.

Quorn continued to dominate the second half, and Tyrell Shannon-Lewis was unlucky not to score on the hour mark, his deflected effort trickling just wide of the post. The inevitable third goal came from a flowing move that saw Grantham send Kelly-Evans free down the right, the midfielder whipped a perfect cross in to the box where Noble arrived to head home.

Grantham had a couple of chances to add a fourth, but was unable to keep a couple of late efforts down. Stone had the final chance of note, but his looping header dropped wide as Quorn secured their first cleansheet since the 2-0 FA Trophy win at home to AFC Telford United in early October.
