REPORT: Quorn 3-1 Rugby Borough

The Reds continued their winning start to preseason, but had to come from behind against their lower-league opponents. Goals from Ryan Beswick, Courey Grantham and a trialist were enough to defeat the UCL Premier South side.

Rugby took the lead in the 12th minute, when their powerful centre-forward convert a low ball that was fired in across goal. Quorn dominated possession but found chances difficult to come by. Paddy Webb smashed one off the crossbar, and Grantham forced a good save at close range.

For the second game in a row, Grantham won a penalty, but with regular taker Beswick on the pitch, the Player/Manager stepped up to convert and pull his side level in the 42nd minute. Grantham did get on the scoresheet three minutes later, with his third goal in two preseason games. Zak Goodson provided the assist with a great effort to get to the byline and send the ball across.

The two goals before the break flipped the match on it’s head, but was deserved on the balance of play. Numerous changes after the break saw the match become a little more disjointed, but Quorn continued to dominate. The final goal came with 20 minutes to play as a trialist turned his defender inside out and smashed a piledriver into the top corner.

Beswick’s side next test is away from home as they travel to Melton Town on Tuesday the 16th of July (19:45 KO). The Reds return to Farley Way on Saturday the 20th of July as they welcome National League North side Brackley Town (3pm KO).
