REPORT | Quorn 3-2 Walsall Wood
Quorn made it three out of three at home in the league in a five goal thriller with Walsall Wood that swung back and forth throughout. Goals from Tyree Wilson, Reece Fyfe and Silvio Bello were enough to hold off a determined Walsall Wood on a sweltering afternoon at Farley Way.
Wilson returned from injury and proved a constant threat, linking up nicely with Paddy Webb to open the scoring the 12th minute, after a neat one-two between the forward pair. The lead was short lived as Alex Bradley levelled just five minutes later, despite Quorn’s protests that a plyer was offside in the build-up.
The Reds retook the lead through Reece Fyfe in the 22nd minute. Wilson was involved again, dragging defenders away and playing a reverse ball to Fyfe, who rounded the keeper to restore the lead. Webb thought he had added a third on the half hour mark, again from a Wilson pass, but he was adjudged offside in the build-up.
Jai Verma equalised for the Wood shortly after the restart, with Quorn guilty of gifting possession to set Walsall on the attack. Ant Carney made a welcome return and his 55th minute flick fed Wilson but Kieran Boucher got down well to make an excellent block in the Walsall goal. Silvio Bello’s winner came from an intense spell of pressure from the home side. The Reds kept possession and dragged Walsall all over the pitch with a series of neat passes that eventually found the full back free in the area, to coolly fire in the winner.
There was plenty of life in the visitors though and it took some inspired goalkeeping from Charlie Woods to hold on to the lead. The Quorn keeper was at full stretch to deny Joe Fitzpatrick, and had to make a double save at the death right before a welcome final whistle.
Attention now turns to the FA Trophy as Quorn get set to welcome Coventry Sphinx to Farley Way on Saturday the 9th of September (3pm KO).
