REPORT | Quorn 7-1 AFC Rushden & Diamonds

Quorn returned to winning ways with a resounding victory over relegation threatened AFC Rushden & Diamonds. The visitors got off to the perfect start, however, when Cairo Taylor struck in the third minute as the Reds failed to clear from a corner. That’s where the highlights ended for Rushden though.

Cain Noble struck from the restart and Quorn were ahead through Tyree Wilson in the ninth minute as the forward scored the goal of the day with a sublime chip from the edge of the box. Top scorer Paddy Webb added a quickfire brace as Courey Grantham found him for a tap-in on 20 minutes and the striker thundered home an unstoppable rocket thirteen minutes later.

Shortly after the restart Ryan Beswick added a fifth. Webb had the initial effort, following a move that included the Reds’ Captain in the build-up. Ben Heath saved Webb’s close-range shot and Beswick pounced on the rebound. Man of the Match, Silvio Bello, added the sixth in the 56th minute, turning his man inside and out, before poking home at the near post.

Grantham completed the rout in the 70th minute, beating a defender for pace and shooting from just inside the area. The shot flew pas a helpless Heath and crossed the line despite the efforts of Scott Jacob to stop it. Grantham almost had a brace before the final whistle, but his shot came back off the post after a strong run from Tyrell Shannon-Lewis.

The win keeps pace with the playoff sides directly above Quorn, as the games start to come thick and fast for the Reds. Tuesday sees a trip to Anstey Nomads before Saturday’s fixture away to Walsall Wood. Quorn return home 48 hours later to host Shepshed Dynamo on Easter Monday.
