REPORT | Rugby Town 1-4 Quorn
Braces from Paddy Webb and Cain Noble helped the Reds come from behind to win a second successive away game, after Jordan Wilson had fired the hosts in to an early lead.
Right from the start, it never felt as though Quorn were in any danger, though when Wilson latched on to a ball from Ryan Sahota, that took a kindly deflection off a Quorn defender, the imposing striker thundered a shot off the underside of the bar that put relegation troubled Rugby in to a surprise 5th minute lead.
Quorn continued to dictate the pace of the game, dominating possession and looking very dangerous going forward. Again though, it was Wilson that looked most like scoring, forcing Charlie Woods to save with feet, twice in the space of five minutes. Noble was proving a constant menace, volleying narrowly wide in one foray in to the box, and sending Courey Grantham through on goal, only to see Nykah Liburd-Hines make a superb low save.
Webb was next to try his luck, set free by Reece Fyfe, the prolific striker worked space and fired in an effort that was well blocked. It felt as though it would only be a matter of time, and so it was that Quorn pulled level in the 29th minute. More excellent link-up play saw Grantham play Webb in behind, with the forward holding off two challenges and slotting past the keeper.
The excellent Charlie Marzano had a chance before the break, but pulled his shot wide, in to the side netting. Rugby enjoyed their best spell of the match to start the second half, Woods forced in to two more excellent saves, first as James Mace met a free kick with a powerful header, and a few moments later when Dan Summerfield whipped in a superb dead ball.
The Methodists regained control around the hour mark and dominated proceedings from there on out. Jordan Gough had a chance from a Devon Kelly-Evans free kick, but couldn’t steer his header on target. Noble eventually put Quorn ahead to stay, heading in at the back post in the 75th minute as Marzano beat his man on the right and floated a ball across goal.
Noble’s second was all of his own making, bearing down on Mace, the former Nuneaton Borough midfielder intercepted the attempted backpass, rounded the keeper and slotted in to an empty net with 10 minutes to play. David Kolodynski had a chance to make things interesting for the hosts, as Woods sliced a clearance, but the forward smashed the chance wide.
Webb had the final word though, curling in a stupendous strike from the edge of the box in the 88th minute to put the exclamation point on an impressive away performance that lifts Quorn to seventh in the table. Next up for the Reds is a visit from another of the promoted sides, Coventry Sphinx, as they head to Farley Way on the 23rd of December (3pm KO).
