REPORT | Shepshed Dynamo 1-1 Quorn
A Ryan Beswick free kick secured a Boxing Day point for The Methodists as they drew 1-1 away to local rivals Shepshed Dynamo. The hosts had taken an early lead through Shaquille Master and things went from bad to worse when Cain Noble was dismissed before the break.
A scrappy first half of very few chances saw scant highlights for Quorn as it took over half an hour for them to test Brandon Ganley. The Reds were already trailing by that point as Master beat Charlie Woods with a well placed strike from just inside the area in the 7th minute. Dynamo were reduced to speculative long range efforts for most of the match, and Zayn Hakeem should have done better with several chances that he wildly lashed high, wide and not very handsome.
Beswick found Devon Kelly-Evans in space on the edge of the Shepshed box, but his effort on the turn was hit over the bar. It fell to Beswick to give Quorn their best chance of a dour first half, his effort, from outside the area, took a deflection and required a diving save from Ganley to deny The Methodists’ Captain goals in back-to-back matches.
The main talking point of the first half came when Noble was cautioned for a foul in the 42nd minute, only to then receive another in the 44th, resulting in his early dismissal. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Quorn looked the better side in the second half, throwing men forward in search of a memorable result. Paddy Webb made space for a shot in the 52nd minute, but curled his effort wide from the edge of the box.
The breakthrough came five minutes later. Charlie Marzano was fouled in a dangerous position and Beswick took the resulting free kick, curling it in to the top left corner, where Ganley could do nothing about it. Neither side was content with the point and both pushed hard for a winner, but the closest either side came was a free kick that smacked the crossbar for Shepshed.
Quorn’s unbeaten streak stretches to four games with a tough match to come on Saturday (30th of December), as they welcome fellow playoff contenders Hinckley LR to Farley Way (3pm KO).
