REPORT | Sporting Khalsa 0-4 Quorn
Quorn continued their unbeaten streak with a third clean sheet in four games. Goals from Courey Grantham, Kyle Bryant and a Paddy Webb brace secured a season double over The Lions that saw The Reds leapfrog them in to seventh place in the league.
Khalsa had the first chance of the match when debutant keeper Niall Shackleton came for a cross but never got there. Curvin Sanderson Ellis picked up the loose ball, but instead of shooting at the open goal, squared it Chay Tilt, who tried to place it, but missed high right.
Moments later Grantham found himself in behind the high defensive line, but with no support, had to go it alone, curling his effort just over the bar. In nearly exactly the same circumstances, Webb broke down the left in the 9th minute, however, centre forward Grantham was there in support. Webb found him in the middle where he had the simple task of tapping in to open the scoring.
Sporting continued to play with a high line, despite Quorn repeatedly getting in behind. The hosts were lucky to still be in the game at the half hour mark as former Reds keeper Ben Whiting made saves from Devon Kelly-Evans and Cain Noble. Ant Carney also broke away but shot wide as Whiting rushed out to narrow his angles.
Despite being played off the park, Khalsa almost drew level before the break. Liam Armstrong had a shot which was blocked, resulting in a corner for the hosts. The set-piece delivery went to the back post, where the most incredible sequence of blocks managed to prevent an equaliser. The ball ricocheted around the six yard box in an almighty scramble before Quorn managed to clear.
Webb punished the home side in first half stoppage time, collecting a wonderful cross-field ball from Jamie Hood, driving in to the box and shooting across Whiting for a deserved 2-0 lead. Kyle Bryant replaced Hood with 20 minutes to play, making his 100th appearance for the Reds. He celebrated the milestone just eight minutes later, lashing in a volley from a corner for a 3-0 lead.
The victory was sealed in stoppage time, as the rampant Reds notched a fourth. Grantham turned provider for Webb as he slid an inch perfect pass through to the free-scoring forward, who made a beeline for the opposition goal and smashed the ball past a helpless Whiting. Next up is a home game with Coleshill Town on Saturday (3pm KO).
