SQUAD NEWS: Fortune Departs

Quorn can confirm that Fortune Maphosa has left the club, joining NPL Midlands rivals Coventry Sphinx. Fortune becomes the third former Red to wear the sky blue and white this season, following Pat Zito and Charlie Woods in moving to Sphinx Drive.

Fortune played 11 games for Quorn in the 2022/23 season, helping the Reds promotion push from step five. His four goals in that spell help propel Richard Lavery’s side towards the top end of the table. His season was cut short on the 10th of April though, suffering a serious knee injury that would cost him the entire 2023/24 season.

The game in question was at Cropston Road, and was abandoned late in the second half whilst emergency services were called to attend the scene. The match was replayed from the start, two weeks later, after the scheduled end of the season. Quorn had to beat Anstey Nomads in order to qualify for the inter-step playoffs, but the match looked destined to finish in a goalless draw. That was until Thabang Dube’s 92nd minute corner eluded Conrad Logan and found it’s way into the net.

All at Quorn would like to take this opportunity to thank Fortune for his lasting impact in that promotion campaign, and for his time with the club since, as he’s worked back from that injury. We’re delighted to see him finally back on the pitch, albeit in his hometown colours, and we all wish him well for a successful return.
