INTERVIEW: Ryan Beswick
Our Press Secretary James Kendrick spoke to Player/Manager Ryan Beswick after the Sporting Khalsa win on Tuesday evening, and asked him his thoughts on the match.
“It was an amazing win for the boys all things considered. We’re a bit thin on numbers but we’ve got some good young players that have stepped up in the meantime. A couple of the lads have been carrying a few knocks but have played through them and that mental toughness and determination has epitomised us this season.”
“You look at their bench and see who they have on there and you’re asking yourself, how are Quorn competing with sides like Sporting, Corby, Worcester etc. There are some big clubs in this division but the heart that we have in this side shows up every match. It’s not just that though, we have quality and the first 45 minutes no one could have complained if we were four or five up at the break.”
“But we didn’t take our chances and when you don’t do that in football then the last five or ten minutes of games go like that, because they have nothing lose and they go for it. They’ve had one that hit the post and they think it’s gone in, we don’t know, but regardless, you get a bit of luck sometimes because of the work that you’re putting in and I’m just so proud of everyone.”
Moving on to the 13 straight league wins, Ryan had this to say.
“It’s impressive, it’s amazing to be fair. It’s my Birthday today and you just think to yourself, unlucky number thirteen and it’s all set-up to fail, but the boys just keep grinding it out. They keep doing all of the things that I ask them to do and they’re a brilliant bunch. They make this job easy, they listen to instructions and go and carry them out. You can see it on the pitch, the way we move the ball, the runs, the movement and the touches and the chances we’re creating, we’ve all worked on it in training and it’s amazing to see it in a game. It would have been nice to be out of sight at half-time so we don’t have the heart attack at the end but that’s football.”
Finally, James asked about being top the league and if other clubs are now looking at us as a target, hoping that we slip up.
“Absolutely, it’s not an easy one for other teams but they have a free hit when they play us, at least that’s how I’d be looking at it if I was any other team facing us. It’s a free hit, we’ve won 13 in a row and at some point we’re going to drop points, we’re probably going to lose a game. To be honest, if we play like we have been and someone beats us, that’s fair enough with me because the lads put in everything for 95, 98 minutes, whatever it is, and if we come up short in a game where we’ve done everything we can, well, that’s just football.”
