PREVIEW: Coventry Sphinx (A)
Where:
Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena, Sphinx Drive, Coventry CV3 1WA
When:
Saturday 14th of December 2024 (3pm KO)
The Reds are back on their travels at the weekend, as they head to the West Midlands for another meeting with Coventry Sphinx, our sixth meeting in 17 months… if you include the 72 minute abandoned match at The Stotto Stadium earlier this season.
Quorn’s Form:
The Reds will be disappointed to have only drawn at the weekend, having held a 3-0 lead after 31 minutes at home to Worcester City. That said, the only team to have picked up more points Quorn at home this season (24), is Quorn on the road (28). The Reds are undefeated in ten away games in the league this season, winning nine in a row and keeping six clean sheets. No side has scored more than one against Quorn away from The Stotto Stadium.
Coventry Sphinx’s Form:
Coventry have won just three times at home this season, 3-0 against Shepshed Dynamo to open the season, a 1-0 local derby victory versus Bedworth United and an impressive 2-0 win over playoff contenders Sporting Khalsa. Most recently they suffered a 3-2 defeat against Lye Town and a 2-0 loss versus Worcester City.
One to Watch:
Bursting onto the scene with a brace in stoppage time at The Stotto Stadium, no one has scored more for the Sphinx than Roan Newey in the past ten matches. The young forward has contributed five goals for Coventry in that time.
Last Time:
Just over six weeks ago, the two sides met at The Stotto Stadium in a rearranged match following the earlier abandonment in which Quorn led 4-1 with 72 minutes on the clock. Kobe Hall fired the Reds into a sixth minute lead, with Shay Willock equalising just three minutes later.
Zak Goodson restored the lead for Quorn in the 11th minute as the two sides combined for a breathless start to the match. Reece Fyfe made it 3-1 in the 27th minute and Ryan Beswick converted a penalty late in first half stoppage time to restore the 4-1 lead from the original match. The second half was a bit of a non-event, until Roan Newey struck twice in stoppage time to make the match look closer than it had been.
Tickets:
Adults £10.00, Concessions £7.00, Under 16s £3.00
Travel:
Take the A6 south to the A46. Join the M1 south, exiting at junction 21 just after Leicester Forest East Services. At the island turn right onto the M69. At the end of the motorway continue straight as it becomes the A46. At the first roundabout take the second exit onto the B4082, continuing on the road by turning left at the next island.
Follow the road, turning right onto Binley Road at the Binley Mega Chippy. After approximately a mile and a half, turn left onto Bull’s Head Lane. The road takes an almost 90 degree turn to the right, after which, take the second left into Siddeley Avenue, and then first left into Sphinx Drive. The ground is on the right at the bottom of the road.
