PREVIEW: Lutterworth Town (H)
Where:
The Stotto Stadium, Farley Way, Quorn LE12 8RB
When:
Tuesday 3rd of December 2024 (7:45pm KO)
We take a break from the league on Tuesday evening as we host Lutterworth Town in the quarter-finals of the County Cup.
Quorn’s Form:
The Reds bounced back to winning ways on Saturday with a resounding 6-0 triumph at Rugby Town to make it 19 unbeaten in the league. Last time out at The Stotto Stadium, Quorn dropped points for the first time since August, drawing 1-1 with Darlaston Town. That draw snapped a fourteen game winning streak in the league.
The first round tie in the County Cup, away to Hinckley AFC, saw a late equaliser for the hosts, resulting in a 2-2 draw. It was a much changed line-up for the Reds that night, with three of the starting 11 no longer with the club. Only three of the starting 11 that night were in the squad on Saturday, though Cain Noble and Reece Fyfe came off the bench, alongside debutant Oscar Marshall, who scored his first senior goal on Saturday. Marshall also scored what turned out to be the winning penalty as Quorn progressed 4-3 when Tom Allsopp saved the fifth attempt from Hinckley.
Lutterworth Town’s Form:
The Swifts arrive at The Stotto Stadium in the midst of a torrid run of form. Lutterworth have lost four of their last five games, with the other result a 2-1 win at home to relegation threatened GNG Oadby Town. A 4-1 defeat away to Northampton Sileby Rangers on Saturday afternoon saw Town slide to 12th in the table. In the first round Lutterworth put out a weakened Barwell side, with Louis Samuels scoring in the 5th minute. The match finished 1-1 with the Swifts winning 6-5 on penalties.
One to Watch:
Lutterworth Town’s top-scorer is Louis Samuels, who has previously donned the shirts of Aylestone Park, Shepshed Dynamo and Harborough Town, but has been in imperious form for the Swifts this season, with 19 goals in 25 appearances.
Last Time:
The two sides haven’t met in almost four years. The previous clash was during the expunged 2020/21 season, when the Reds were 4-1 victors at Farley Way. Lutterworth took the lead in the 26th minute through Lee Tyers, but Tawanda Mangondoza levelled before the break. Quorn took over after the restart with goals from Jack Duffy, Steve Hart and Brandon Fox.
That game took place just before Christmas 2020, with the league suspended shortly afterwards. Quorn were fourth in the United Counties League Premier Division at the time, with Lutterworth Town one place above. Of the teams in the top eight places in the division at that point, the Swifts are the only one that aren’t currently playing in step four or above (Anstey Nomads were top, Loughborough Students second, Shepshed Dynamo fifth, with Rugby Town, Wellingborough Town and Harborough Town rounding out the top eight).
