REPORT | Quorn 0-1 Harborough Town

Quorn fell to defeat at a sodden Farley Way on Saturday afternoon as Harborough Town continued their impressive league streak, winning a sixth straight match to lift them up to third in the table. Dan Forbes scored the only goal of a fiercely contested match, as the Bees kept a sixth successive cleansheet in the league.

The match started slowly, and the opening goal came in the 15th minute, from an innocuous looking free kick on the left hand side. The set-piece wasn’t dealt with by Quorn and Forbes was afforded two attempts from the edge of the box, the second taking a wicked deflection that Charlie Woods was powerless to stop.

Connor Kennedy could have added a second, just moments later, as the midfielder found a free header from a free kick, but directed his effort straight at Woods. Kai Tonge charged down a Woods clearance, but saw his deflection creep just over the bar.

The hosts began to fashion chances for themselves as neat link-up play between Paddy Webb and Tyrell Shannon-Lewis earned the former an opening, but it closed up quickly as Webb’s shot was blocked. Shannon-Lewis, who harried defenders all day fired a volley over from Kyle Bryant’s header across goal, as the Reds looked to draw level before the break.

Quorn were incensed to see Kennedy only shown a yellow card, as he elbowed Bryant in the side of the head in the 26th minute. Whilst the Reds were making most of the forays forward, Luca Miller reminded them that Harborough still posed a threat, getting in behind but firing his effort at Woods.

The young forward broke through again just moments later, but found Woods at full stretch to tip his effort around the post for a corner. Quorn’s best chance of the half fell to Billy Kee, who was forced in to early action from the bench as Webb took a knock. The former Accrington man lost his marker as Elliot Taylor rushed out of his goal to close him down. Kee got a boot to the ball but couldn’t steer it in as he hooked his shot narrowly wide.

Devon Kelly-Evans shot from deep on the hour mark, but Taylor comfortably held his effort. Whilst their was an element of fortune to Harborough’s goal, Quorn had no such luck in the 68th minute when a goalmouth scramble from a corner saw efforts from Chris Robertson, Kee and Shannon-Lewis, all blocked.
