TRANSFER NEWS | Experienced Trio Commit to Quorn
Manager Richard Lavery has added three news faces for the Reds, in the shape of Billy Kee, Devon Kelly-Evans and Chris Robertson. All three have Football League experience and join Quorn from step three sides.
Robertson, who is on dual-registration terms with Coalville Town, is a Scottish centre-half who came through the ranks at Sheffield United. Although he turned pro as a Blade, Chris never appeared in a first team match, leaving in 2007 to join Torquay United, Robertson made almost 200 appearances for the Gulls, most of which were in League Two.
Stepping up to League One, Robertson spent two years with Preston North End, and two more with Port Vale, before a spell in his native Scotland with Ross County. Returning south, Chris enjoyed spells with Swindon Town and Wimbledon before moving in to non-league football, eventually finding a home with Coalville Town, where he has enjoyed four seasons with the Ravens.
Born and raised in Coventry, Kelly-Evans joined the Sky Blues as a youngster, breaking in to the first team aged 19. Devon scored his first professional goal for Coventry City in a 2-0 win over Exeter City just two days after his 21st birthday. After departing from the Sky Blues, Kelly-Evans joined local side Nuneaton Borough, where he had enjoyed successful loan spells.
The midfielder was a firm favourite with the fans at Liberty Way, winning a clean-sweep of their Player of the Year awards in the 2019/20 season at step three. Devon moved back up to step two, where he thrived with another Warwickshire club, Leamington, to start the 2021/22 season, leading the Brakes to a Birmingham Senior Cup win, with Devon scoring the opening goal in the final at Villa Park.
Like Robertson, Billy Kee arrives from Coalville Town. Born in Loughborough, Kee went to school in Quorn and played junior football at Allexton & New Parks. After joining Leicester City’s Academy system, Billy came through the ranks to earn a professional contract with the Foxes. Making his professional debut during a season-long loan with Accrington Stanley, scoring nine goals in 37 appearances.
After leaving Leicester City, Kee signed a two year deal with Torquay United in League Two. This time reaching double figures for goals throughout the season, before being sold to Burton Albion in the summer. Billy enjoyed three seasons with the Brewers, making over 100 appearances and scoring no fewer than 42 times before being sold to League One Scunthorpe United.
Kee returned to Accrington in 2015, playing a further 198 times for “The ‘Owd Reds” and adding another 74 goals to his tally. After taking some time away from the game, Kee returned to the pitch with Coalville Town, where he maintained his impressive goal record. The prolific forward now returns home to see if he can help fire Quorn to another promotion.
All three players are registered in time to join the squad for the next league fixture, when Quorn host Harborough Town on Saturday afternoon. The match will take place at Farley Way Stadium (15:00 KO). Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for concessions & free for Under 16s.
