REPORT: Quorn 2-0 Spalding United

The Reds wrapped up preseason with an impressive victory at home to their step three opponents. First half goals from Cain Noble and Zak Goodson were enough for Quorn as Ryan Beswick’s side returned to winning ways.

Courey Grantham’s through ball split the Tulips defence in the sixth minute and sent Noble racing through, one-on-one with Tony Breeden, with the midfielder sliding the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner.

Beswick had a chance moments later, but shot just wide. Spalding had their first chance in the 15th minute, with James Clifton shooting narrowly wide. Goodson added the second when he collected a rebound on the byline, worked back inside and whipped an unstoppable drive in to the far side of the goal.

Goodson almost had a second seven minutes later, but Breeden made a good stop to deny the in-form forward. Noble was also denied a second shortly before the break, as a goal line clearance somehow kept his effort out.

The second half was less fluid, as Spalding’s physicality began to have more of an impact, several heavy challenges probably would have been more severely punished in a competitive tie. Beswick converted one of many free kicks into a curling effort that Breeden was able to snatch before it crossed the line.

Jonathan De Lacerda forced a couple of routine saves from Breeden, and the Spalding keeper had to be at his best to keep out a late effort from Noble, saving with his feet the midfielder held off two defenders who were nipping at his heels. A sixth win out of seven in preseason have Quorn in good shape as they prepare to host Sutton Coldfield Town in league action to kick-off the season next Saturday.
