REPORT: Quorn 2-1 Brackley Town

The Reds overturned a half time deficit to win a fifth consecutive preseason friendly, maintaining Ryan Beswick’s 100% record as the season approaches.

Quorn got off to a strong start, creating plenty of chances as Paddy Webb fired narrowly wide, as did Zak Goodson. Silvio Bello got himself forward on the right hand side on a couple of occasions and caused problems in the box, having a shot blocked and looking as though he could have been awarded a penalty.

Jack York forced a good save from Jonny Maxted and Webb had another effort blocked before a drinks break broke Quorn’s flow. Straight from the restart Brackley took over and put together their best stretch of the half, culminating in Danny Newton’s volley to open the scoring.

Quorn responded well and Goodson had a chance with a header but couldn’t direct it on target. The Reds started the second half the brighter, Courey Grantham had a shot blocked which fell to Webb, he played it back to the striker but his follow-up was saved. The rebound fell to Micah Jebbison who lashed home the deserved equaliser.

Beswick’s side controlled the second half, but temperatures began to fray and some heavy challenges were beginning to fly in. Things came to a head with about 15 minutes to play when Cain Noble was embroiled in a midfield battle, and was kicked when he went to the floor. The Referee called both players over, and also spoke to Grantham, who was one of several Reds that had quickly come to the defence of their team-mate.

Grantham, who has already scored five times in preseason, and won two penalties, was awarded another when Maxted clattered into him on the edge of the box. Webb stepped up to take this one, and smashed it in. Brackley had a couple of chances to equalise in the second half, most notably when Riccardo Calder hit the crossbar with a free kick, but Quorn looked unflappable and saw out another victory.

The next match for the Reds will see the visit of Ossett United on Saturday the 27th of July. It’s another 3pm KO at Farley Way.
