REPORT: Quorn 5-1 Sutton Coldfield Town

The Reds bounced back from an early deficit to win in resounding fashion as Paddy Webb headlined a superb start to the season with a perfect hat-trick.

Quorn almost took the lead in the second minute. Mason Frizelle’s header was cleared off the line and Courey Grantham’s backheel was also blocked in a frantic opening few minutes. Sutton took the lead in the tenth minute as a bobble took the ball away from Tom Allsopp on a backpass, leaving Owen Parry with the simplest of tap-ins to become the first man to score at the DPD end.

It took about 20 minutes for Quorn to hit their stride, but once they did get going they were unstoppable. Zak Goodson was superb linking up on the right with Silvio Bello, and the forward’s performance deserved a goal, as Sutton’s only answer for him were some heavy challenges.

Webb pulled the Reds level in the 27th minute, as Ryan Beswick’s ball split the defence and sent him through one-on-one with the keeper, sliding the ball in with his left. Grantham handed Quorn the lead ten minutes later, firing one in that James Wren got something on, but couldn’t keep out.

Cain Noble opened his account in the 41st minute, much like Sutton’s first, Wren lost control of a backpass and Noble nipped by him to score, handing the Methodists a commanding first half lead. Noble almost had a second around the hour mark, but Wren was able to get enough on the ball in another frantic goalmouth scramble.

Paddy’s second game after he picked the ball up near the corner flag and drove into the box, switching on to his right foot for his second, with 15 left to play. Top scorer in each of the past two seasons, Webb completed his perfect hat-trick with a sublime looping header that left Wren stranded in the Sutton goal. It’s only early days, but the win has Quorn sitting atop the table, with a trip to Long Eaton United to come on Tuesday evening.
