REPORT: Worcester City 1-4 Quorn

The Reds continued their good league form, bouncing back from their Trophy exit last week with a 4-1 win away to second placed Worcester City. A Ryan Beswick penalty was followed up by second half strikes from Courey Grantham, Paddy Webb and Zak Goodson, ensuring that Quorn took all three points on the road in their longest away trip of the season.

Charlie Wise did not live up to his name when he grabbed a handful of Grantham’s shirt as the forward was through on goal. The Worcester centre half saw red in the sixth minute, and saw red immediately afterwards as he ripped his shirt in half, Hulk Hogan style, as he exited the pitch. Beswick coolly converted the penalty for his first goal of the season.

From that point on, Quorn were utterly dominant and should have added to their tally. A goal line clearance thwarted Jordan Gough, making his first appearance since March, and Haydn Whitcombe was in fine form to make a couple of superb saves to keep his side in the game.

Hayden Reeves pulled The Faithful level in the 34th minute, as his shot took two deflections before finding its way past Tom Allsopp. And the Quorn GK had to make a superb save as Worcester enjoyed their best spell of the match in the lead up to half time.

With Quorn playing down the slope in the second half, the extra really began to tell as the Reds played at a relentless pace. Jack Samples, who was superb on his return at left back, fired in a cross that Goodson cushioned back across goal for Grantham to strike an immaculate overhead kick to regain the lead in the second half.

Goodson had a chance that went narrowly wide and Whitcombe made a good save to deny Webb. Grantham had a chance for a second but snatched at it, as he was being closed down, and fired over as Quorn turned the screw on their over-matched hosts.

A deserved third finally came with just under ten minutes to play as the imperious Silvio Bello pinged in a cross from the right that Webb was able to clip under Whitcombe. Goodson applied the finishing touch on an impressive display as he came in off the left and curled the ball past Whitcombe in the 87th minute.

Quorn remain fourth in the table, but still have games in hand on all of the sides above them as they remain unbeaten in the league. With Tuesday's match postponed, their next fixture will see the visit of Coventry Sphinx on Saturday, a first home game in 26 days for the Reds.
