SQUAD NEWS: Defender Joins The Reds
Ryan Beswick continued adding to his squad over the weekend, with the signing of defender Mason Frizelle.
Nottingham born Mason got his start with local club Dunkirk. After a spell with Kimberley Miners Welfare, the powerful central defender moved to Gresley Rovers, where he helped ‘The Moatmen’ to promotion from the United Counties League Premier Division North.
After a slow start, that saw the introduction of Richard Lavery as Manager, The Reds climbed to 13th that season, but Gresley powered to a second place finish, that saw them promoted via points per game, skipping the playoff route. Through 34 league games, Rovers lost just twice, missing out on top spot by three points.
Frizelle was the only ever-present for Gresley that season, leading Rovers with 39 appearances, and playing every minute of the campaign, including their 2-1 win at Farley Way. Mason stayed at the Moat Ground for the following season, in which Gresley struggled to push on, but survived in the NPL Midlands. Last season Frizelle stepped up a level, joining NPL Premier side Basford United.
Mason made 25 appearances for ‘The Ambers’ last season, scoring in the 2-2 draw with Warrington Rylands. Before the registration deadline Frizelle moved to Derbyshire side Belper Town, playing in the final seven games of the season as ‘The Nailers’ narrowly missed out on the playoffs.
“I spoke to Ryan a couple of times, and he seemed like a great guy, and someone that I wanted to play football for” said Mason, continuing “Obviously I was already aware of Quorn having played against them in the past, and know that last season was an impressive accomplishment. Hopefully we’ll be in and around the playoffs again this season, and perhaps go one better.”
“I played alongside Jordan Gough at Gresley, and have played against Reece Fyfe and Paddy Webb many times over the years, so I’m looking forward to teaming up with them all and hitting the ground running when preseason starts later this week.”
Welcome to Farley Way Mason.
